Saki Gerassis is a PhD in decision analysis (DA) from the Department of Mathematical Methods and Numeric Simulation in Engineering of the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2021, with the thesis Data analysis and decision making in the mining sector. Sakis currently works as Policy and Data Officer at the European Commission in DG MOVE. In addition, he is a researcher at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering.
In the last years, Saki has published numerous research articles showing how to apply big data analysis and Bayesian machine learning to address complex problems in multiple research fields, such as engineering, economics, environmental pollution or plant ecology. The ultimate goal is to use AI and advanced technological solutions to make better decisions. Those studies will pave the way to exploit the power of data to better define risk management strategies within corporations as well as for the design and implementation of public policies.
Looking forward, the goal is to improve the use and applications of information theory, based on Shannon Theory, to better understand individual risk attitudes that would optimise the probabilistic models of a certain problem under study. As a result, upcoming probabilistic results will offer a new insight that inherently considers the attitude towards the risk.
