PhD in Environmental Sciences, Master in Spatial Planning and Environmental Planning, and a degree in Biophysical Engineering. Professor at ESA-IPCB since 1996, and Adjunct Professor since 2009 in the scientific area of Planning and Management of Natural Resources, Environmental Impact Assessment and Landscape Ecology. He supervised 91 and argued 72 theses.

His scientific activity includes areas such as the use of multicriteria analysis tools in the planning and management of rural and natural areas, the study of the influence of environmental factors on present and future species distribution. Also took part in 10 national and international research projects. He was author of 17 books and book chapters and 42 articles published in scientific journals and proceedings of scientific meetings with peer-review and presented 97 communications in scientific conferences. He also participated as staff member and scientific committee member in 26 conferences.

He took part and coordinated teams responsible for preparing land use plans and environmental impact studies. He also has advanced knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Plant Ecology.
