I completed my PhD in Physical Geography at the Department of Geography of Coimbra University in 2013, with the thesis Assessing impacts of climate change on the distribution of flora and vegetation at Madeira Island. At the moment, I am Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography and Tourism – University of Coimbra, and integrated researcher at the Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning.

I have participated on different projects (land use change, forest dynamics, climate change assessment, biological invasions, wildfire risk assessment) and published papers mostly focused on plant distribution and vegetation dynamics.

My main research fields are vegetation dynamics after land use change, vegetation response to different disturbance sources (fire, landslides, invasion), plant distribution patterns, and niche modelling.  At the moment I am very interested on the assessment of impacts from invasion by exotic plant species on natural and semi-natural habitats, and explore potential changes on plant distribution in the Mediterranean Region under climate change scenarios.
